What is a package travel?
A package travel consists of at least two of the following travel services, which must have been purchased together or offered at a single price:
- Transport
- Accommodation
- Tourist service
- Car rental
Transport = e.g., plane, bus, train, ferry, etc.
Accommodation = e.g., hotel, hostel, summer house, camping cabin, etc. If you are going to be away for more than 3 months – e.g., on an exchange or language trip – the stay is not considered as “accommodation”.
Tourist service = can be many different things. The key is that it is essential to the overall product where it is combined with one of the other three.
Examples of tourism services that may be essential: Ticket to football match, concert ticket, yoga course, hunting, diving, green fee for golf, ski rental, lift pass
Car hire = hire of car, motorhome, large motorcycle, or other motor vehicle.
A package trip lasting less than 24 hours is covered by the Fund only if it includes accommodation – whatever the price.
